Title: Now Only Premium Shops at cafepress
Post by: glau on 09/19/11 at 12:23:09
I'm not sure if this is old news and has been posted before but I now see that when I login to Cafepress and open a new shop it is now a Premium Shop and has new features like sections. How does this affect CPShop and are we able to do new things now from using the previous basic shops?

Also should I change all my basic shops (which are basically just different designs) into the new premium ones?

I also should ask how does it affect income?

My understanding is that you add a shop -- looks like premium only but after that you can opt for basic. Give it a try.

I don't think you can use basic shops anymore, at least not with CP shop - I got some pretty bad issues with the old basic shops so i upgraded them as I just wrote here: http://www.marty.net/cgi/marty/board/messageboard?board=cphelp&action=display&num=1316916123&start=0

I haven't opened any new shops lately so I can't say if there are any issues with CP Shop, but you can still open basic shops if you are logged in and use this specific url:
http://members.cafepress.com/stores/store_add.aspx?premium=false

The details on the switchover are here:

I just checked a CPshop that's made out of basic shops... it's having problems with the CPshop 2.8 version.

2.8 The thumbnail pages show up ok, but when I try and click the link to a product page it bounces me back to the home page.

I put it back to 2.7c. That mostly works OK, (though on the product page there is a weird "crop dialog" message I had to get rid of with css).

Shoot! I just upgraded to 2.8 today and had the same problem. I've rolled it back to 2.7 but see that weird crop message, too. Has this been addressed by Marty anywhere else on the board? :(

I haven't noticed anything, but I put this in the "css style override" box to get rid of the message:

<style>
#cropDialog {display:none;}
</style>

Thanks for the CSS fix. I really wasn't sure how to handle that.

I just upgraded all my shops to Premium at Cafepress and they all work fine in 2.8 and as far as I know there is no cost to use premium shops now!

I do use premium for my own personal shops, but I also use CPshop for the affiliate program, pulling in other people's shops to make affiliate links. I'm stuck there because I can't control whether the other shopkeepers decide to upgrade or not. ;)

And though premium's nothing upfront it's not free (the deal is CP keeps 10% of your profit from that shop maxing out at $10 per month per shop) so I think a lot of people still are sticking to basic.

But anyhoo, in the other thread Marty said he was looking into it, so I'm sure it'll work out eventually.
