affiliate question - double dipping
« on: 03/04/08 at 13:07:49 » |

I'm seeing sales that are discounted because they were referred by an affiliate, but when I check my CJ report, i'm getting the affiliate credit. that would be find if I wasn't losing out on the volume bonus end of it. Anyone know why that's happening or how it can be fixed?
Thanks

You won't be losing out on the volume bonus part, as long as you've got that CJ account associated with the shop account. CP takes it into consideration.

Make sure you've got that CJ account entered into the affiliate redirect box in your CP account. CP looks for those double-dipping instances, refunds the affiliate fees for affected orders, and allows those same affected orders to qualify for VB.

hm, interesting. so, 2 questions. 1) is there anyway to verify this? and 2) what if I have more than one CJ id's (for example, one for my blog and one for CPshop?)
Thanks!

1. The credits happen monthly, and are viewable in your transaction report. And I helped code them, so I know they're there.
2. You can only associate one CJ account at a time. So you'll likely just have to choose which account is more important.

OK, so I finally signed up for a new CJ account the other day (after swearing for years I wouldn't). Since than ALL my sales show up in CP as Affiiate sales, but NONE show up in CJ. Just friggen wonderful, now I'm losing a dollar a sale on every sale.
I have my CJ PID entered in cpshop, and I have my CJ PID entered in the CP affiliate redirect thing here https://www.cafepress.com/cp/members/affiliate/account/cj...
So what else do I need to do?
I know for a fact one of these sales could not have possibly come from anywhere but my cpshop since it was a custom order and is only in a PRIVATE basic shop with only a URL to my cpshop.
URL edited so as not to complete.

That doesn't indicate that the system's not working. Here's what likely happened:
1. The buyer is shopping around and happens to click on someone's CP affiliate link to a totally different CP product somewhere, setting an affiliate cookie in his/her browser. He or she may or may not have bought it.
2. Later on, that same shopper stumbles across your CPShop store and decides to buy your product.
Since the affiliate cookie was already set elsewhere, the sale is considered an affiliate sale.
Here's what I don't know...
If you had your own affiliate account set up in CPShop, would a new cookie be set replacing the previously set one? If so, then in theory the system should detect that it's your own affiliate link and cancel the affiliate payment and resulting fee. If not, then whoever sets the first cookie wins.

Has anything changed with the affiliate structure based on the new Bonus techniques? I've noticed a few sales showing up in Commission Junction as affiliate sales that are my own products. I'm not doing anything different and certainly not attempting to "double-dip".... yet it appears to be happening.
Is CP still watching and crediting these things? Do I need to report it to someone or will it be handled automatically?
Thanks for any input anyone can provide.
