Hi I'm having problem when I click in any product, it keeps loading and sometimes I get a 404.

Hmm.  A few possible reasons:

- network problems between your server and the CafePress servers

- you're being blocked for some reason by CafePress

- your webhost is blocking outbound connections to CafePress

Without actually taking the time to login directly to your server and diagnose the problem, I can't really be sure what the problem is, but unless you've been tinkering with the script files themselves, it's almost certainly one of those three things.

I'm pretty sure this is on CP's end.  It's progressively gotten worse.  Today I see it's is impossible to load any product pages.  Does anyone have any contacts at CP to report this?

Yeah, some quick diagnostics prove that this is definitely on CP's side, and potentially deliberate.

I've developed a possible workaround, but it requires some tinkering in the script files.

Step 1:

Make a backup of cppage.lib.

Step 2:

Find this line in cppage.lib:

my $response = $ua->get("http://$h$f");

and replace it with this:

my $response = $ua->get("http://$h$f",'User-Agent'=>'Mozilla/6.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:16.0.1) Gecko/20121011 Firefox/16.0.1');

3. Create a new blank file in your install directory called "cpcookies.txt" and chmod it to 755.

4. Test your store.



Some quick testing on my part shows a massive difference in response time, but your mileage may vary.

That seemed to work.  Thanks Marty!  It's still painfully slow for me, but not getting the 404's all over the place.

I've been having this issue too. Thank you for the quick work-around -- I'll try that.

By the way, for me at least, I'm getting an "under maintenance" message for product pages but thumbnail pages do appear.

"We're sorry, but this store is currently down for maintenance. Please check back in a little while. (error code: noconnection 7) "

Um, "possibly deliberate?"

It's probably trying to block all programmatic page scrapes, regardless of whether it's cpshop or not.  The small change above hides the fact that it's not a regular user.

I followed you up until this:
"chmod it to 755"
How do I do that?

Is this still a problem? I just got back from a climbing trip and I was able to do the fix to one of my shops before I left but not the others.

It seems like the shops I didn't apply it to are ok but now the shop I did apply it to is a little slow?

What are others experiences?

I modified an existing shop and left a new one alone for comparison, I don't see much difference, it seems hit or miss as to how quick or slow either loads a product page at any given time, so the answer is...idk.

I am a non-techy and I really need simple instructions. I can't seem to figure out how to do fix my shops.  All of them are down.  I tried following the directions from #3 and 4  above and it did not work.  By install file, is that the root file or the file where the actual shop is located?   I don't understand CMod.  I don't use FTP.  I actually edit directly through the file manager.  

I noticed we haven't had an update for CPShop. Would updating CPshop fix the issues with our shops?  I wish we had known about this issue. I am not sure how long my shops have been down.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is, once again, CP blocking cpshop (and similar scripts).

I've put a zip file in the download area called "betafix.2012.11.30.zip" -- if you're finding you're having this problem, you should try uploading the contents of that zip file to your install directory, and see if it fixes the problem.  It's a kludge, but it might be enough to get you at least through Christmas.

Unfortunately, if they really want to block cpshop completely, there isn't going to be anything anyone can do about it besides complain.  So cross your fingers.
