HTML in Product Names

So, my cpshop has been down since version 1.4b due to extreme laziness in upgrading, but I've just now updated to 1.4d and noticed something peculiar.

I added <BR> tags to my product names a long time ago for esthetic reasons and never noticed a problem before. However, the <BR> tags now mess up any ALT tags on my product pages.

Was there a time when HTML was stripped from the product names for this reason and has that time now passed? Or did the product names simply not appear in the ALT tags before?

Any idea how I can now get the break I desire in the product name without it messing up anywhere it appears in an ALT tag?

Thanks!

My mistake. It's not the <BR> tags screwing things up; it's the quotation marks I used in some of the product names.

I'm assuming now that the product names were simply not used in the product pages' ALT tags until recently.

I tried going through and replacing the quotes with &quot; but I don't have enough space left in every product name to do so.

Anyone have an idea how to get around this?

Have you considered using different characters instead of quotation marks?

Perhaps 'these'?  Or even `these´?

(To make the ´ character, hold down your Alt key, type 0180 using your number pad, and release the Alt key.  Or just copy and paste it from somewhere else.)

I've decided on something similar, actually. I'm using two single quotes ''like this'' which gives the effect of a regular quotation mark. Seems to work pretty good so far.

Thanks!
