Hide wildcard store IDs in URLs?

Any way to "hide" wildcard store IDs so they don't show up in cpshop URLs?  I'd rather not have such cumbersome URLs:

http://www.koshirts.com/cgi-bin/cpshop.cgi/kitchen?target=prod&page=1&trail=&st=&p=kosherdefense,kblog,kosherfriends,genkosher,genkosher3,genkosher4,genkosher2.12481139

It would seem logical if cpshop could just refer to the "WildcardIDs" value in cpshop.cgi.config rather than pass the IDs in the URL.

I'll gladly take a muck-around-in-the-code solution, if there is one... otherwise, toss this thread over to "feature requests"

Thanks!

Unfortunately, if your server doesn't support clean URLs, then that's the way cpshop passes data from page to page.

The next major release does eliminate this problem, however.

Oh, I thought my site did support clean URLs --

http://www.koshirts.com/cgi-bin/cpshop.cgi/shirts

...works just fine.  But an individual product URL (as posted previously) has a long query string.  Should clean URLs eliminate the wildcard IDs?  My site is running on FreeBSD with Apache -- Is there any particular Apache or Perl functionality whose existence I could confirm with my hosting people?

Thanks for your help.

You're right -- you do have clean URLs.  However, because of the way CafePress renders pages, cpshop doesn't explicitly have a way to know which store ID is associated with the current product.  So the full list is necessary.

I could change the script to parse everything every time, but I'd probably prefer not to worry about that quite yet.

And, as I was saying, the next major release will use an entirely different system of gathering data, so this problem will be among those that disappear.
