Product Codes and cpfilters

Lovethetroops did a great job in building a product list and some drop down listbox code.
I was thinking along similar lines last night and put together a couple files for myself that I hope you all will find helpful.

I pulled the product codes and descriptions from the HTML at http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/products/viewall and finessed them into a spreadsheet.  Then I created cpfilters for each of them, one with thumbnails, the other without.  Finally, I created a listing of dd listbox option lines to correspond with the filter names.
Obviously, this list is only as up to date as the product list today, and when CP adds more products I will have to rebuild it all.  But for now, here is what I have built:

Filters without Thumbnails:
http://www.simplesignshop.com/examples/CPShop_filters_no_tn.txt
and with thumbnails:
http://www.simplesignshop.com/examples/CPShop_filters_w_tn.txt
You can download these with a right click, or display them to the screen and cut-n-paste them directly into cpshop.cgi.config with your favorite text editor.

Tips on putting these into your cpshop.cgi.config file:
1) Use the CPShop admin panel to add a couple filters if you don't have any yet - this is so you can find the right spot in the config file later.
2) Make sure you log out of the admin screen.
3) download the cpshop.cgi.config file from your server (your local copy on your hard drive is probably out of date)
4) Open the cpshop.cgi.config file with your favorite text editor and find the lines with the filters you already entered (near the end)
5) Insert a carriage return, then cut-n-paste the list from the file you downloaded.
6) Get rid of any extra empty lines around what you pasted in.
7) Save the cpshop.cgi.config and re-upload it.
Open the CPShop admin panel, and immediately save all changes.  This will clean up url-friendly coding as Marty's script re-saves the filters. - NOTE - your website pages will FAIL TO LOAD if you do not do this!
9) You're all set.  Tons and tons of store / department entries for you to play with now.  Don't forget to go back and create your own captions and keywords for each!

To use all the new stores/departments, you may want to create some listboxes as lovethetroops suggested in an earlier post.  I've also created an <option> line for each of the categories:
http://www.simplesignshop.com/examples/CPShop_dd_lb.txt
You can use these however you like - don't forget to update the path to the .cgi program for your domain.

And if you want all these in the original spreadsheet so you can play additional games with them, here's the spreadsheet itself:

Oh, and don't mind the mess at Simple Sign Shop - I'm still learning what this tool can do, and how I best want to use it...

If anyone wants to use the same drop down list box groups that I have at www.simplesignshop.com, you can get the code snippet at:
http://www.simplesignshop.com/examples/ddlb.txt

You'll notice that I put comment tags around a few of the items that I don't have in my shop - change those as you see fit for your shop.  And of course, put in the path to your own domain.

Thank you for providing this. I had no idea how to accomplish this sort of thing but your files and instructions were very helpful.

Hey Tom (and Marty),

I can hide these storeid entries from the sidebar easily enough; is there any way in cpshop to keep them off the main page content as well?

Cheers,

Hi All,

I'm trying to understand what the intent of the original poster was.  By putting all the product type in your config file does that mean they will be set up as store id's in the Admin section so I don't have to type them in manually?

What is the end result of doing this if I did not set up any filters?

Thanks,

Mona

If you just want to use these links for something like a dropdown box, check the box for each store ID entry that keeps the listings out of the sidebar and homepage.
