Ok this time I do need help.  Sorry.

I have embeded a flash .swf in the top of the HTML file.  It shows up great but it reloads everytime I go to another page.

Anyway to keep this planted at the top without reloading everytime you click on a new page?

Like <don't load again> </don't load again>

I tried this with a simple text header "The cpshop Demo Store" and that reloads also each time I go to another page.  Is there anyway to keep the header and menu solid and just the [content] loads when you click on a link?

Yep. Use frames or SSI for your content.

In short, No. Unless there's a way to do it within flash.

Hmmm. Perhaps I shouldn't have opened this can of worms, or been quite so cryptic.

Neither SSI or Frames provides a simple fix for the issue you're attempting to resolve and will likely create other issues that are more difficult to resolve.

Here're some brief frame discussions

The best way to accomplish what you're looking to do -- or, rather, the best way I can think of at the moment -- is to make your movie dynamic.  Have it accept a variable that flags whether it should run through whatever animation you have in the movie, or just display a static version of the movie instead.

Then use javascript cookies in your template to tell the movie whether this is the first or subsequent time they've seen the movie.  Check for the cookie at the top of the page, and set it at the bottom.  If they're loading their first page on your site, then the cookie isn't set yet, and the movie plays through.  If the cookie's already set (meaning they've already seen the movie once), then it'll skip the animated part.

If I were to write all that in dummy code, it might look like this:

<script>
if moviecookie is set {
   movie url = non-animated version
} else {
   movie url = animated version
}
</script>

...rest of page...

<script>
set moviecookie
</script>

Hopefully all that makes sense.

Ahh, Clever.

Don't forget to add a <noscript>non-java banner code here</noscript> for all those folks who either turn off javascript (plenty a them nowadays) or the rare visitor whose browser doesn't support it.

cheers,

There is also a way to accomplish this in flash. Try looking up framesLoaded. I believe you can check to see if the movie has been 100% loaded; and if so, skip to the final frame (or any other frame/label of your choice), else play from the begining. SO once the user sees the animation it should detect that and skip to frame x.
