Dynamic filters in URL?

Hey Marty (or anyone else!)

Is there dynamic filtering that can be done by just adding a variable onto the URL?  For example, I have a shop with a lot of filters setup already, but I want to be able to sort by price on the fly, instead of making a new store id filter for it in cpshop.

For example, I have 20 wildcards let's say.  I already setup 20 filters which have:
*, 6 product types
*2, 6 product types

I set these all up already, but I didn't want to go back to each and do a new filter for sort by price up, and sort by price down.

Is there a way when I make links on the side myself to have &cpfilter_sort=  or whatever on the end to do it dynamically, or is that impossible b/c of the caching that's involved and such (and security maybe)?

Just thought I'd ask!

Dynamic filters aren't supported.  They used to be, but the load on the server was noticeable (and something web hosts sometimes complained about, which is never a good thing).

Damn hosts!

Well, I understand, I thought they used to be too, but if hosts are going to cut accounts, they I guess it's ok to remove.  Thanks Marty for the lightning quick response.

I forgot to ask, is there a better strategy for what I'm trying to do then, or just what I know will work and will take a while.

So what I have above as an example:
*1, filter 6 products

I feel people will come to the site and look for low price or the higher price, like you find on most store sites.  I assume I need to go through to my 20 filters so far and basically triple the amount of filters by doing

*1, filter 6
*1, filter 6, sort lo to hi
*1, filter 6 sort hi to lo

plus given that my 6 can be split (let's say prints vs posters = *1, filter 3), that would increase it all again if i wanted price sorting.  that was why I was asking for dynamic URLs for this.  Is there an easier way that I just can't see, or is this the road I'm taking?  Thanks!
