index.html? cptemplate? what to use?

Hi
I try set up my cpshop and I think everything looks ok.
http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com

BUT...
sometimes I can see links in my statcounter that leads to like this:
http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com/cgi-bin/store/cpshop.pl/environment.designershop-143576048%20think-green-messenger-bag.html

But it should be like this:
http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com/cgi-bin/store/cpshop.pl/environment/designershop.143576048

So what is my  problem?
Well, I have a frontpage that is called index.html and are located in my root on the web.

And I have a different template for every sections in my store and they are located in the cgi-bin/store directory together with a "cptemplate.html"

All my links from index.html go to the other templates exept "cptemplate.html" which I don't use.

so why is the link in statcounter showing "cptemplate.html"?

Is it because it is indexed by google?

Can I just delete the cptemplate file?
Should I tell the robots not to index my cptemplate file?

Yes, I'm confused how to set things up.

Those links are showing up because you have SEOified URLs turned on.  Go into cpadmin, look at the other options section, and turn off "SEOify Links".

That's probably it then; they likely got spidered by search engines while they were turned on.

They should fade from the engines after a while, as long as they remain turned off.

But still I'm not sure how this is working. Do I need the "cptemplate.html" when I'm using the index.html as my frontpage and all my links go to other templates.
Or must I have a "template.html" in the "store" folder to keep the script iworking?
And if I have to keep it can I tell in my robot txt file not to spider that filè?
I guess by time I will learn more how all this is working.

it is a bit strange.

In statcounter someone searh on google:
"environment sayings"
http://www.google.com/search?q=environment+sayings&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG2.x=9&btnG2.y=9

And my site comes up on the first page on google, thats fine.
And if you click on this link from google it will take you to the correct place in my shop and the link is;
http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com/cgi-bin/store/cpshop.pl/environment.designershop-143576048+think-green-messenger-bag.html

But the link that show up in statcounter is:
http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com/cgi-bin/store/cpshop.pl/environment.designershop-143576048%20think-green-messenger-bag.html

The links look very much alike but are leading to two differant templates, and the one is the template I don't use. I'm getting many hits from google for this environmental...something searhes and if I click on the link in statcounter many of them leads me to the wrong template. You can see there is a small differant in the links, the + is in statcounter showing as %

So I'm wondering the people who click on my links from google where are they actually landing?

Ah, I see.  It's a translation of a space placeholder ("+") into a URL-encoded space ("%20").  Bummer.

I'll have to work on a fix for that.

Hello kalvesta, I know this is an old post but I wanted to know if you figured out if you need the cptemplate.html file? I am in the same boat. I am unable to get the site to work just by typing in the url. I have to go to the /cgi/store/cpshop.cgi file to see the site. Do I need to create a "home page?" Then link to everything from there? Do I have to build pages for everything?

This is how I build my store:

I upload the script to my cgi-bin/store/ directory.
Also my cptemplate.html (I think you can just use the one that comes with the script)
When I had my store running ok from my ……..cgi/store/cpshop.cgi

I did this:

I made my own webpage or index.html (www.t-shirt-sayings.com) and upload it to my root at my hosting.

Then I made one template for each of my section in my store. Like for my environmental t-shirts I made a website called environmental.htm and I upload it to the same directory as my cptemplate.html file. (…..cgi-bin/store/environmental.htm)
I only use the <content> tag on this template and set up the left menu manually.

In my cpshop panel and “store settings” I use this as one of my store id:
designershop/2870012,cpfilter_template:environment.htm

Then I just link to that site from my index.html or frontpage.
And I did the same thing with my other sections.

Then In the cpshop control panel I set
“Store homepage options” I put in http://www.t-shirt-sayings.com

And everything is running ok.
I’m not linking to my cptemplate.html and still not sure if I can just delete or not.

Then I have some other sites (templates) like promotion.htm, about.htm and so on but these sites are not showing any products so I uploaded them to my root directory.

I’m sure this is just very confusing instead of helping but at least I did try

Oh, and one more thing.

I have seo each of my section templates in “Microsoft frontpage” before I upload them.
Like the environmental.htm I have seo for environmental t-shirts and other environmental issues.
I did not put in any descriptions or keywords in the cpshop panel.
If you search for “environmental t-shirts” at Google you will see my shop showing up at page 3 in Google with my environmental section:
http://www.google.com/search?q=environmental+t-shirts&hl=en&pwst=1&start=20&sa=N

or if you search for “save the rainforest t-shirts I will show up on the first page:
http://www.google.com/search?q=save+the+rainforest+t-shirt&hl=en&start=0&sa=N

I believe having different templates with seo for each section or specific themes helps.

And I used this program to spider and make a sitemap file that I uploaded to my root directory and told google to read it from my google webmaster menu. The program spider all my cpshop sites including each product page and I can see Google have indexed about 5000 them.

designboy

You do not have to build a webpage like I did to get your store to start from your own domain.
