Ah, now it's not doing it!  Should I save the page or take a screenshot next time?

Flippinsweet, I've been having that problem too, here's a screenie: http://oph3lia.com/cpshopbug.jpg

I'd get a MP page, broken links, plus a lot of the time it wasn't even the same design.

For me it was happening before this latest keepshopping change, I noticed it around when they added the "facebook like" and CPshop upgraded. (I went back to CPshop 2.7a and the problem went away.)

I couldn't figure out what made it happen either... it seemed totally random. I've been chalking it up to my shop just being old and buggy (it's a grandfathered "big" shop, around 1600 sections)

I did notice when cleared my cache it seemed to stop doing it and I would think it was fixed, but then a couple days later I would see it happen again. (Though it's so random, I don't know if clearing the cache really made it go away or if it was just coincidence)

I added a big big link "Go Back Where You Were" on my cart page.

<a href="Javascript:history.go(-1)">Go Back Where You Were</a>

If any experienced coders see something wrong with this link, please tell me. I found it on the internet and it seems to work.

Thank you.

When I have a cpshop that mirrors a premium shop I've been able to smooth this issue over (mostly). Thanks to all for the special codes.

For my shops that are collections of products from different shops, and when I'm using the cpdefault dummy shop instead, I've gone to using the cart in a POPUP window instead of the same window, otherwise NOTHING will take me back to my original shopping cart and the javascript 'keep shopping' button gives an error.

Bleh,

Maybe Marty could add a "Go back where you were" button to the cpdefault cart? That seems to be a good back up solution. I just went to your shops and see what you mean.

Good luck!

I was just thinking of that too - great minds!  LOL.  Marty - would that be a possibility in the cpdefault shop?

Yep! My "Keep Shopping" is broken as well! No wonder my cart abandon rate is up. Which method is best - that JS code or the pop up window?

The js code works great for me. Try it and see. In any event, I'd add a "God Back Where you were" link on your cart.

Ok, here's a REALLY obtuse semi-work around for people who don't have premium shops to match their cpshop setup or use products from multiple shops.

Create a basic shop.  Put your actual shop link in the 'shop description' area with text like "To continue shopping in "shop", click the link below:" and then just add the link in plain text below that.  It would be great if we could do html or an automatic javascript redirect, but that's not possible.

Now, change your 'dummy' store in cpshop to be your new basic shop. Yes, that means the cart will be the basic store cart instead of the plain cpdefault cart.  Not ideal, but there you go.

Next, when you're linking to your cart from your cpshop installation, use this link:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/viewcart.aspx?s=basicshopID&keepshopping=/basicshopID

And when you add items to the cart, the 'keep shopping' javascript button in the cart will take you back to the basic shop at least, with the link back to your REAL shop.  Yes, the customers will have to click again, and it MIGHT be a little confusing, but at least there's a better chance of them finding their way back to your cpshop.  You might also add a little bit of text in your basic shop description that says that you use cp for their secure cart and fulfillment but that your catalog is actually hosted on your own site - or something like that.

It's certainly far from perfect, and a pain in the BUTT, but I hate that error message from the keep shopping button.

Maybe, if Murphy's law is working, after I get these all set up, another better solution will appear - LOL.

I've added the code to cpdefault.  I would have done it sooner...but I'd forgotten the password to the account, and it's under an email address I don't use anymore. =(

Anyway, if someone wants to try it out, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Marty,

I'd be glad to try it out but am not sure what to try out ? Feeling very dense... Do I need to update the cpshop files or something?

On the subject: I've stuck the java - keep shopping - script in my shop and my cart button is linked to a hidden page with the - Javascript:history.go.. - script.

This seems to work ok except for when you remove something from the cart.
If I have two items in my cart, for instance, and remove one and then click on the keep shopping button, it sends me back to the shopping cart when it had two items...

All in all I prefer this to either an error page or sending the shopper back to the home page but still...

Should the code you added help that?

You should just point the keepshopping variable in the URL directly at the page you want the visitor to visit.

...&keepshopping=http://www.mydomain.com/store/

The history.go(-2) page shouldn't be necessary if you have that script installed.

I'd be happy to test it out. Can you give me the play-by-play on how to change/add the right code to the right place?

Guys, I believe all you have to do is make sure your dummy store is CPDEFAULT again, or still.  Marty has changed the 'keep shopping' button there to go back to our domain shops. (Also make sure that your main store URL, if diff. from cpshop pages, is defined in the admin page as well.)

I've tried it in two of my shops now and it seems to be working great!

Thanks, Marty!  Glad you got back into that account - LOL.

Marty - any chance you could also add that css code to stop that offer from showing up at the top of the carts (right now it shows up when you add a tshirt of a certain value) that is only valid in the marketplace?
