Before I open a shop, would someone address these

I've just finished reading the Privacy
Statement at Cafe Press.  A section refers to keeping your Social Security Number & Tax Number private.

Of course I'm a little concerned about putting my SSN over the internet even though I
understand that it's needed to report income.  My first question is if anyone else had
any concerns with putting this information over the internet?  And if anyone had any
problems after doing so?  Stolen ID etc . . .

Secondly, will I get an income statement at the end of the year?  Providing the shop
makes money of course.

And lastly, what tax number is asked of you?  Do you have to get a business lisense to
open a shop?  I'm thinking not since I've never read anything about it there but if not
then what tax number are they referring to?

Sorry for all the questions, I just like to know as much as I can before starting on
this endeavor.  I'd ask over there but I think you need to have a shop before posting on the message boards.

Thanks so much for any information you can give me.

We have had no issues with Social Security numbers to date.

If you make $600 or more during the tax year, you'll receive a Form 1099 from CafePress.  If you make less than $600, then you will not receive a 1099 (and I believe the reporting of that income is up to you).

It depends on to whom checks are payable.  If you're having checks sent to you so you can cash them yourself, then you should enter your Social Security number.  If your checks are payable to a business entity, then use that business' Tax ID number.  You do not have to get a business license to open a shop.

And you don't need to have a shop to post on the CafePress message boards -- you just need a CafePress account.
