After I wrote up my tutorial about global image replacements, and found that another CPShop user was having trouble with wide content, I thought I'd share some of the other tweaks I've done with my images file.

Sorry about the line wraps here; watch out for them.  If there are trailing spaces on these entries, they're important.

These have accumulated over the years; some may no longer be necessary, but I'm not turning them off to find out .

1.  Assorted replacements that make the CafePress content work better in a narrower space.

It used to be that we could display everything in a column 450 pixels wide; but in late 2005, and possibly continuing in 2006, numerous layout changes took place at CafePress that made this impossible.  My newly redesigned sites were breaking, so I experimented with a number of images file text replacements that brought the content down in width, and saved my site designs.

I probably couldn't even tell you what most of these do any more, specifically; you can experiment with one or all of them to see if they resolve any layour problems you may be having, especially with wide CafePress content.

Code:
*||||nowrap||||
*||||»||||
*||||&nbsp;</td><td colspan="3"  >||||&nbsp;</td><td colspan="3" valign="top">
*||||serif" size=2>Size: ||||serif" size=2><font size=1><br></font>Size:
*||||Size Attribute Selector --><tr><td class="xsmallText"  >||||Size Attribute Selector --><tr><td class="xsmallText"  valign="top">

2.  Removing content you don't want

These, respectively, remove the "Tell a Friend About This Product!" email link (it sends the friend to the page at CPP, not in your CPShop); removes a copyright notice that tells the user that you might be a dangerous image thief and lets you be reported (thanks, CP!).

Code:
*||||Tell a friend about this product!||||
*||||<p class="storesmallprint">All content used in connection with the CafePress.com Service has been provided by CafePress.com users and does not reflect the opinions of CafePress.com. Unauthorized use is prohibited by law.<a href="http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/content_policy.aspx">Questions?</a></p>||||

Here are several entries which try to remove completely the "Available Printing Methods" content; since I always specify a single method, the information about the drawbacks of each is unnecessary and, I think, a pretty negative bit of marketing.
It's only partly successful.  No matter what I've tried I've been unable to remove the label that says "Available Printing Methods".  All links and other anchor text ARE removed, though, and I'm living with the unnecessary label.

Code:
*||||<div class='xsmallText'>Available Printing Method(s):</div>&middot;||||
*||||Heat Transfer||||
*||||Direct Printing||||
*||||Default ||||
*||||What is this?||||
*||||http://content.cafepress.com/help/html/printing_popup.html||||

I don't remember why I do this, but it's in that same section.  It completely disables the ScanAlert Code; like I said, I'm not sure why I needed to do that, or if it still matters:

NOTE:  I tracked this down, and it was there to remove the "Hacker Safe" logo; so it's really obsolete now.

Code:
*||||<!-- START SCANALERT CODE -->||||<!-- START SCANALERT CODE --
*||||<!-- END SCANALERT CODE -->|||| -- END SCANALERT CODE -->

3.  Modifying Content

I really like this one - the "Size Charts" that come up prominently in the product pages are inaccurate and confusing.  However, there are pretty good size charts that are harder to find.  So I use this replacement to change the link from the bad size charts into a link to the good one.

Code:
*||||Size Chart||||</a><a href="javascript:launchHelp('http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/help_sizechart.aspx','height=610,width=650,scrollbars=yes')" )="">Size Chart</a>

Here's one more - CP is trying to access an external JavaScript file, but they're doing it with a local address.  So when your CPShop looks for it, it doesn't find it.  This fix will make that file load properly, and won't foul things up if they start to load it from an absolute, rather than a local, address:

Code:
*||||"/cp/bin/http_request.js|||| "http://www.cafepress.com/cp/bin/http_request.js

Thanks you  for this, especially for the external js file (/cp/bin/http_request.js/cp/bin/http_request.js ) it was trying to access. Every time I would run a link checker I would end up with thousands of my pages trying to access this non-existent - on my site - script.

BTW, the script in question is an Ajax Initialization thing, FWIW...

Hi. Glad I stumbled across this.  Thanks!

I'm trying remove the dark color beta text using your same format above in the cpshop.cgi.images file but having no joy.

The full text:
AVAILABILITY:Dark Apparel will ship in a minimum of 5 business days. Please Note - We cannot guarantee delivery time for [beta] dark shirts.

Would like to remove everything from "Please Note" on.  Here's what I've been trying:

Code:
*||||Please Note - We cannot guarantee delivery time for [beta] dark shirts.||||

Any ideas?  Thanks.

Your best bet is to look at the source on the Cafepress version of a shop page, so that you can get the exact string to replace.

But I've had one or two be very stubborn about it - "Available Printing Method(s):", for example, just refuses to die.

Hey Techbuzz,

*||||Please Note - We cannot guarantee delivery time for \[beta\] dark shirts.||||

Try that.

[EDIT: NO DON'T TRY THAT!]

Weird. It does remove the string, however,  it also has some nasty side effects.

Bradley and Techbuzz,

I've created a tutorial for replacing both the "[beta] Dark" and "Available Printing Method(s)" strings in this forum topic.
