Oh, it would be such a big project to move that I won't bother unless I don''t have any choice.

I don't hear from them very often; that last time was a real trial, though.  I can remember when their technical support people actually understood the things they were talking about.

Unfortunately there's no way to know in advance whether you'll run into this kind of problem.  You *may* find that a host has limits but you'll never know exactly what they are and what that means to you until the hammer comes down.

what the frack?!

here we go again was fine for for a few months, and blammo, site down, 2 HOURS on the phone with people at Blue Host they say "multiple instance of the script running." check for updates to the scripts (i am  current) check with the developer (am posting here). have tried the modified robots file -- dind't work. any ideas.

this time they pretty much said if it happens again they are canceling me forever, they said it much nicer than that.

Marty: any ideas? did anything on the cafepress feed change? does cp.shop need to be updated?

i'm at a loss: could i have malware somewhere on the server, i don't see anything?

so FRUSTRATING, this is destroying my google rankings i spent years developing!

How big is your shop?  Other than the most common problem (robots hammering your site), the only other thing I've seen that causes the "multiple instances" problem is super-giant installs.  I've seen some installs that are a good 20x the recommended 50,000 product limit, and they can have those issues.

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way -- I have to run queries on the DB side usually to find out.

Most people multiply their section count by a guess of average products-per-section to come to an approximate number.

You can also get the real number by doing a line count of the cpshop .data files holding product information, but since those can have any name, you actually have to search for them in your cpcache, which, frankly, sucks. =(
